Procedures
Our office offers a wide range of preventative dental therapies. These range from children’s occlusal sealants and fluoride treatments to adult gum tissue management, night guards and other preventative services.
- Cosmetic Dentistry:
- Smile improvement is our forté! Realignment, contouring, and space closure of teeth are all procedures we can perform to enhance your appearance. We utilize porcelain and ceramic facings, crowns, and inlays for the ultimate natural look. Care is taken to insure that your function will also be enhanced by our cosmetic improvements. The option of tooth color fillings instead of silver is always available. We also offer full-mouth or multiple-degree dental bleaching, total whitening in the office, Zoom II and deep bleaching. No-prep facings and traditional facings are available to improve the total smile. We also restore dental implants and mini implants.
- Endodontic Therapy:
- Retention of your damaged or neglected teeth can be accomplished by doing endodontic (root canal) therapy. This is usually done in one appointment and recommended by our office because nothing else is like the real thing, especially with teeth. Dr. Polk provides painless endodontic procedures using state-of-the-art equipment, the region’s only intra-oral microscope, and accepts referrals from many other dental practices in both Roanoke and Lynchburg.
- Replacement of Missing Teeth:
- Replacing missing teeth is important for looks, speech and digestion. We replace them by the use of custom dentures, partial dentures, cemented bridges and dental implants. We help you find the one of many options we provide to each patient so an educated decision can be made to find the treatment that is just right for you and your budget.
- Surgical:
- When necessary, we offer a wide range of surgical procedures. These range from simple extractions and biopsies to more complex procedures such as pre-denture jaw contouring and traumatic injury repair or tooth re-implantation. To help patients undergo these procedures we offer nitrous oxide sedation, oral sedatives, and local anesthetics.
- Orthodontics:
- We offer limited removable orthodontic care such as retainers, all-acrylic positioners to correct mild crowding, cross bites, and other orthodontic problems. We also construct anti-snoring devices and night grinding/clenching guards. For more complex orthodontic care, we utilize a team of specialists in that field.
- Emergency Care and Trauma:
- In conjunction with Carilion Bedford County Memorial Hospital, we have 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week emergency service available. Oral traumatic injuries, including avulsion of teeth, are covered by our practice. We also cover dental emergencies at most of the local adult care and nursing homes.
